In brief

Everyone says “just get more leads” - but last Thursday at 3:10pm in Denver, seeing 72 signups made my chest drop. I was mid-rebuild of our intake flow and the pattern I’d seen three times in three weeks finally had a name.

Everyone says “just get more leads” - but last Thursday at 3:10pm in Denver, seeing 72 signups made my chest drop. I was mid-rebuild of our intake flow and the pattern I’d seen three times in three weeks finally had a name. Here are 7 signs you’re getting attention that won’t pay - and what matters now: 1) High clicks, low bookings - you’re buying curiosity, not trust. (Ad creative is solving curiosity; your proof isn’t solving decision.) 2) Landing page converts to form fills, then silence - follow-up isn’t the problem, relevance is. 3) Demos end with “we’ll think about it” - not a pricing fight; it’s a fit problem you haven’t surfaced. 4) Clicks to form, no replies - sign it’s wrong people, not wrong ad. 5) Testimonials hype features, not weekly outcomes - social proof must map to the buyer’s day-to-day wins. 6) Spend can scale but ROI drops - that tradeoff tells you you’re widening net, not deepening pull (and that’s expensive). 7) I finally named it - wrong attention. I sat there, burnt coffee smell, spreadsheet of 72 demos across two weeks, and thought... …they weren’t leads, they were curiosity clicks - people who’d never pay. So the fix wasn’t more ads; it was changing who we talk to and how we prove immediate value. In short - stop amplifying noise - diagnose whether you need different people, different proof, or different positioning, and act on the one that moves bookings.
